The modest hitmaker. This apparent contradiction captures Honza Ponocný quite accurately. For years, he has been an unmistakable guitarist alongside Ivan Král or Meky Žbirka - but few knew that the mysterious man in the black hat is also a top-notch songwriter.

When an unprepared person witnesses Ponocný's wild one-man-show Circus Ponorka, they immediately start wondering, "Where do I know this from?" Honza's playful and emotive songs are easily memorable. After a few bars, even audiences of films by Alice Nellis or Petr Zelenka, or numerous theatrical plays recognize them.

The Circus Ponorka + Deep Blue Sea Orchestra project was created as a special for a film music festival. Its purpose was to capture Honza's songs live in an almost "cinematic" form. The Deep Blue Sea Orchestra is a fusion of classical musicians from the Epoque Quartet with Honza's long-time collaborators David Landštof and A.M. Almela. The interplay of seemingly distant musical worlds resulted in a captivating show. After its conclusion, everyone knew that this couldn't be just a one-time specialty.
